Dear Church | Week 3: Pergamum | Truth, Freedom, and Full Surrender
What happens when we follow Jesus with part of our lives—but keep other parts for ourselves?
In Week 3 of Dear Church, we explore Jesus' letter to the church in Pergamum, a church that remained faithful under persecution but was slowly compromising in areas of truth, obedience, and holiness.
Surrounded by a culture that celebrated idol worship, self-expression, and moral compromise, the believers in Pergamum faced a challenge that still confronts us today:
Will we allow Jesus to be Lord over every area of our lives?
In this message, discover:
⚔️ The truth about faithfulness and why partial obedience is still disobedience
📖 The truth about truth in a culture that says, "Follow your heart"
🕊️ The truth about freedom and where true satisfaction is found
❤️ The truth about Jesus and the freedom only He can give
Key Truth:
Jesus doesn't want part of your heart—He wants all of it.
The church in Pergamum was willing to stand firm against persecution, but they struggled to surrender areas of their lives that felt culturally acceptable. Jesus lovingly calls them—and us—to a deeper level of trust, obedience, and surrender.
Questions to consider:
👉 Are there areas of my life where I've made Jesus my assistant instead of my Lord?
👉 Am I shaping my beliefs around God's truth or around my own preferences?
👉 Where is God inviting me to trust His wisdom over my feelings?
Jesus reminds us that true freedom is not found in following every desire or appetite. True freedom is found within the boundaries of God's truth.
The things we think will satisfy us often leave us empty. But Jesus offers something better.
He is the hidden manna.
He is the Bread of Life.
He is the truth that sets us free.
And through His death and resurrection, Jesus takes our guilt, our shame, and our brokenness and offers us a new identity.
A white stone.
A new name.
A new life.
