Dear Church | Week 4
Dear Church | Week 4: Thyatira — Love Well, Live Well
What's more important — loving people well or living righteously? The answer might surprise you: Jesus says it has to be both.
In Week 4 of our "Dear Church" series, we dive into Jesus' letter to the Church of Thyatira in Revelation 2:19-29. Thyatira was a church that loved generously — but they were living sloppy with God's grace, tolerating teaching that was pulling people away from Him.
We unpack the historical context of Thyatira's trade guilds, the call-back to the biblical figure of Jezebel, and what it means for us today when we look to culture for approval, acceptance, and blessing instead of trusting in Jesus alone.
Here's the truth: Without love, you can do nothing wrong and still do nothing right. Without truth, you can have high intentions and low influence. But when you hold both together — you grow up.
In this message, we explore:
- Why Jesus praised Thyatira more than any other church — and still had a serious warning for them
- What "sloppy agape" looks like in our modern lives
- How God's boundaries are a blessing, not a burden
- Why followers of Jesus are called to be both Salt AND Light
