Pastors Troy and Lacey Hartman
Listen to our story here
Troy has a story full of tragedy and hope. He was driving drunk at 3:00am New Year’s Day 2000 and wrecked. His friend, Matt Jones, was killed in the accident. Matt’s mom, Mary, invited Troy to the funeral and told him, “I love you, I forgive you, and if you give your life to God, He will use it for good.” You can hear more of that story in the broadcast above!
After Mary shared these powerful words with Troy, he went to a local church and began to serve. In 2003, Troy had the opportunity to help start North Point Church in Springfield, MO and ended up meeting his wife Lacey while serving! The Hartman’s were on staff at NPC for 11 years, but felt God asking them to leave a place they loved to start a new church. Troy and Lacey, along with their daughter’s Jovi and Jade, moved to Manhattan in 2015 knowing one person. In the first few months they lived in Manhattan, a team of 40 people committed to help launch Rock Hills Church. Rock Hills officially started September 13, 2015 at the Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan, INC.
Beliefs and Values
Rock Hills Church exists to connect the unconnected by providing a safe place to find and follow Jesus.
We believe in the Historic Christian Faith, reflected in these statements:
God is the loving Creator of all that exist, both seen and unseen. God is eternal and completely good, knowing all things, having all power and majesty. God exists as the Trinity, in three persons, yet one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God passionately desires relationship with us and towards this end continually invites us into a relationship of faith, friendship, learning, and service. [Genesis 1:1, John 14:6-9. 15-17]
God expressed Himself in human form through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified for the sins of all of us, was buried, rose again from the dead, and ascended into heaven. [Colossians 1:13-23]
The Holy Spirit, sent from God to live inside all who believe in Jesus Christ, teaches, comforts, and empowers us, giving every follower diverse gifts, fostering unity, interdependence, productivity, Christ-like character, and love among Christians. The empowering of the Holy Spirit, the Promise of the Father, is available to every believer. [Acts 1:8, 2:4]
We believe that God speaks to us through the Bible, and that it is our privilege to seek to understand God’s message and apply it responsibly to our lives. The Bible is our standard in all that we say and do. We believe the timeless truths of God’s biblical message ought to be presented with timely methods, understandable to the people of our community. [Matthew 5:17-19]
All people are created with dignity and value in the image of God, to live in a vital relationship with God. However, through our sin (failing to live by God’s moral standards), we break our intended relationship with God and experience the destructive consequences of that broken relationship, spiritually and socially, in this life and beyond. However, God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us from those consequences and to restore our broken relationships with God and others, through Christ’s death on the cross, a perfect act of redemption for each of us. Salvation comes to people on the basis of God’s grace through their faith in Jesus alone. They receive the free gift of forgiveness and are spiritually reborn through repenting of their sin and believing in Jesus Christ. Good works and a holy life, although totally unable to save anyone, are the natural product of repentant, believing people. [1 Peter 2:24]
Every person who has believed in Christ should take the next step to get baptized! We believe we should be baptized to follow the example set by Jesus as well as because Christ commands it. Baptism is our opportunity to go public with our faith and is an outward expression of what Christ has done in our lives. Baptism illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection. Baptism doesn’t make you a believer, but it shows that you already are one. Only our faith in Christ saves us. We believe in baptism by immersion because Jesus was baptized in this manner. [Matthew 3:13 –15, Colossians 2:20, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:8-9, Acts 2:41, Acts 8:13]
“For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” I Corinthians 11: 23-2
As followers of Jesus, we celebrate communion to remember all that Christ did for us on the cross because of his great love for us. Communion is an opportunity to look back and remember Jesus forgives us our past, thank Him for providing access to his presence in our present life, and celebrate that our future is secure in his love.
A Safe Place
Where everyone is welcome and everyone is changed! No matter where you’re from, whether you’re familiar or unfamiliar with church, what you’ve done or not done, Rock Hills is a place where all are invited to go on a spiritual journey with Jesus.
Rock Hills is a gathering of people committed to having genuine relationships that invite you to be you, yet inspire you to be who God made you to be.
Practical Bible Teaching
We focus on connecting the truth to our everyday lives. Application
trumps information. What we believe is important, but not as important
as what we do with what we believe.
Our kids and students are the future and each of them are loved and valued by God. Rock Hills is a place where kids are safe, have fun, and learn about the truth of Jesus. A place where students are encouraged to serve others and see the truth of Jesus come alive in their own lives.
Are how people grow in their relationship with Jesus. Rock Hills Church is a place where everyone is encouraged to take next steps and we believe everyone has a next step to take.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, safety for our kids is a top priority. Every volunteer who works in the kids area has gone through our extensive background check. We also utilize a computer check-in system. It is a huge responsibility to entrust your kids to us and we take that very seriously.
If your child becomes fussy while in class, we will do our best to help calm them down. Our goal for them is that they will love coming to church and beg you to bring them back the following week. If we are unable to calm them down, you will be notified via text message and a number on our main worship screen will appear that coincides with their check-in name tag.
If you are coming to church for the first time, it typically takes 3-5 minutes for the check-in process.
We encourage people to come as they are and dress in what feels most comfortable.
Each week we have prepared an age appropriate lesson that will teach kids about God and His love for them. We go to great lengths to make sure kids have fun during the service. The teaching is interactive and utilizes multiple approaches for different learning styles. Our goal is for kids to understand who Jesus is and how He can make a difference in our lives. Kids Rock is led by background check approved, qualified team. If you have additional question click here to contact us.
Our 6-12th grade student’s hangout in a small group setting weekly! We also encourage our students to serve in Kids Rock or other serve teams on Sunday morning’s.
